It's Official ... Up For Grabs is moving!!

The response to the new site in the last 24 hours has been very, very positive and so Up For Grabs will be moving to WP. The official move date is 9/1/08.

New site link: Up For Grabs

Until then I will post August giveaways at both sites and September giveaways only at the WP site.

I know it's a pain to update links, blog rolls and readers and for this I apologize but the move is a good thing. Because I'm using pages at WP and not standard blog posts you will have to subscribe to the Comments feed for each giveaway page to receive updates. It's the only solution I could come up with. If you're experienced WP user and have a better idea please let me know though I'm not inclined to move from pages to posts.

It's Your Turn to Let Me Know...

I need you all to weigh in and help me make a decision. This site exists because you all support it so your thoughts and opinions matter to me. No Up For Grabs isn't disappearing I'm staying right here kind of. I'm committed to this site just not my web host. And that's where you all come in. My frustration level with Blogger is growing daily after having moved my personal book blog, The Printed Page, and starting a book club and ARC blog over at WordPress. It may be that Blogger is experiencing some growing pains right now and that I don't need. I've been using Blogger in Draft and the old Blogger and neither fit where I'm at with this site.

Wordpress has one feature that would, I feel, would enhance Up For Grabs and definitely make managing the site easier. The big draw to WP for this site is the Pages feature. Each month would have it's own page for giveaway listings. Instead of a blog post you would select the appropriate monthly page. Posting comments is much easier and more efficient. I don't think that pages have RSS feeds so you wouldn't be able to get updates that way which is a drawback but one I can't do much about if Up For Grabs relocates.

If all goes as planned there may be a new home for Up For Grabs soon.

From Amazon: In this impressive debut, Wiersema crafts an intelligent, contemplative supernatural thriller replete with well-rounded characters, artless dialogue and a plot that, while imbued with the unexplained, develops organically, revealing its secrets at just the right pace. In the novel's opening pages, three-year-old Sherry Barrett, an only child, is rendered comatose in a hit and run accident. What follows could have been a typical thriller full of cartoonish villains and escalating peril; it also could have been a treacly fairy tale about God's miraculous healing power. Happily, Wiersema steers clear of these well-traveled roads and, by way of multiple first-person narratives, tells an engrossing story of flawed but genuinely good people who must bear up under the stress of loss, betrayal, unwarranted miracles and unconventional spiritual warfare. Particularly well-imagined is the purgatory of sorts that Henry, the truck driver, must endure after he fails to come forward after the accident. Reminiscent of Wim Wenders's film Wings of Desire, Henry's nature, longings and environs paint a poignant picture of souls in need of redemption. While some readers may find one of the novel's final revelations less original than the rest of the story, Wiersema gets nearly everything else right, and the result is an engaging, emotionally resonant read.

Just a bit of news

Just a bit of UFG (Up For Grabs) news. Being a bit slow in the blogging world I'm not the fastest at catching on to things even though they might be staring right at me. Just last week I registered UFG at 2 different blog subscription services. For me it was one of those "who knew?'" kinda deals. I've haven't heard back from Blogged yet but I got a little thrill when I went back to visit Technorati yesterday. I was searching under blogs using book giveaways just to see if UFG would pop. Not only did it pop, it popped on the 1st page and the 3rd listed blog! So maybe this will give the site a little push. The Favs button next the listing was looking very lonely as no one at Technorati loves us, yet that is, so I added it as a favorite to my other registered blog, The Printed Page. If you stop by Technorati and find the UFG blog and enjoy this site please add us as a favorite. Thank You!!

Still more news: I know some of you must be winning these giveaways posted at UFG as the listings are starting to increase and, really, who can pass up the chance at getting a free book. So Maybe I'm Rethinking My Decision ... Smiles All Around

So I've been reading blogs and looking for giveaways and I believe Up For Grabs is up to date. Better go check out July and August. I didn't include links here but they're only a post or down from this one.

7/12 early evening
So many of you have written in the last 2 days that I'm starting to seriously rethink my decision to "abandon" Up For Grabs. It really did, and still continues to feel, like I'm reinventing the wheel but maybe this is one wheel that needs to be reinvented. I'll admit I'm torn and continually waffle back and forth. The email in support of Up For Grabs has been more than I expected.

So ... with that said ... I'm back for now. I make a promise, to you, to give it until I leave for my winter vacation at the end of November. At least until then giveaways and contests will be posted here.

Now I've made the job ever harder for myself ~ why would I do anything the easy way ~ I'll figure out how to get the word out there again.

I know I've missed some giveaways over the last couple days but I'll try to catch up!!

Last post at Up For Grabs ... Signing off

As I sit and write this last post please remind yourself that I've put a lot of thought into it before putting fingers to keyboard. Remember in the bygone years when it would have been pen to paper?

I believe in the beginning that Up For Grabs was a good idea but one that is repeated daily on book blogging sites across the web. As I browse many, many, many book blogs looking for giveaways and contests to post here I find the same ones repeatedly posted on personal blogs. So the word about a giveaways and contests is definitely out there and thriving in several different places. I feel like I've been reinventing the wheel, so to speak, these last couple of months.

The giveaways and contests posted this morning are the last that I will be posting here. I will retain the blog address and someday, maybe, do something else with the site.

For those who posted giveaways and contests in support of Up For Grabs I thank you. Everything you contributed was and is truly appreciated.

As you all know by now this is my labor of love.

If someone out there in blogging world is tech savvy and creative I'd love to have a button that I could post here and pass along. I'm neither of those so that's why there isn't one right now.

First poll: Is Up For Grabs an appropriate name?
Answer: A resounding yes for the blog title
I toyed with the idea of calling the site Up For Grabs but thought it might hinder the site as many giveaways/contest are much more than that. Not being a very creative individual I couldn't think of anything else at 2AM when Up For Grabs was born so I went with what I had. You'll notice though that the blog title has changed a bit.

Second poll: Would you post a giveaway/contest?
Answer: Another resounding yes
I am starting to get more comments for giveaway and contest postings so I think the word is slowly getting out there. Also, I can't tell you how many blogs I subscribe to seeking out giveaways and contests to post at Up For Grabs. I thank my lucky stars that I found Goggle Reader. I'm continually adding new books blogs as I come across them. I know there are some giveaways/contests I miss because at a glance it's not obvious that it is part of the post. If you come across something I haven't posted please let me know.

I'm considering another poll or two. I'll most likely post them in the upcoming week when I have 5 days off for the holiday!

Wednesday morning is almost here, just 20 minutes away, as I sit and write this. I've updated giveaways for June and July. You'll also notice a new feature at Up For Grabs. I've added Smart Links by Adaptive Blue. Here at Up For Grabs Smart Links will be providing information about the books being given away. It's just another way for you, the reader, to have more information at your fingertips when deciding if a particular book appeals to your reading tastes. Smart Links are the tiny blue boxes you'll see next to the books titles. They have been added to books listed in giveaways posted 6/24/08 and later. Also, instead of new giveaways being added at the bottom of the monthly post I've moved new giveaways to the start of the post. I keep trying new things. Please let me know what works and what doesn't. If you come across something in your blog travels that you think would enhance Up For Grabs please let me know so that I can check it out. I'm not very "techy" but if I can figure out how to do it or get help somewhere I'm willing to give most anything a try.

My apologizes to everyone. There were no new giveaways to post yesterday (6/23) and my mom arrived in town last night so I was away from my beloved laptop. I do have 3 or 4 new giveaways to post and will do so once work quiets down, most likely after 9pm MST (Boise, ID). I don't want the boss catching me at my labor of love which, of course, is not my paying job. LOL

The Big Meltdown

If you're stopping by today and you've stopped by in the last couple of weeks you'll notice a big change at Up For Grabs. Mainly that's there is nothing here. Unfortunately we had a major meltdown last night. If you're stopping by for the first time we apologize for the inconvenience. We're going to turn this into an opportunity to take a poll or two and gage interest in continuing Up For Grabs. Both polls are listed in left column and polling is open until June 30th.
